What is schizophrenia? The three main symptoms of schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is not a rare disease. Patients with this disease often have disorders of thought association, emotion, and will activity, which can cause the patient's behavior to be completely inconsistent with the environment.

(1) Thought association disorder : The thought association process lacks coherence and logic, and this disease has characteristic disorders. Its characteristic is that the patient's thoughts are scattered or split, lacking concreteness and reality, while he is conscious. When talking, one may give irrelevant answers to questions and describe things inaccurately, making it difficult for others to understand. This is called "loose thinking." In severe cases, speech becomes fragmented, which is called "fragmented thinking", and even individual sentences lack connection with each other, which is called "word confusion".

Sometimes, the patient may suddenly stop thinking without any external reason, that is, the thinking is interrupted, or a large number of thoughts emerge with obvious

The feeling of involuntary thinking is called compulsive thinking. Some patients use very common words or actions to express some special meanings that cannot be understood by others except the patients themselves. This is called pathological symbolic thinking. Or they put two or more completely unrelated words together and give them special meanings, which is called neologism.

(2) Emotional disorders : Emotional dullness and indifference, and the lack of coordination between emotional responses and thought content and external stimuli are important characteristics of schizophrenia. The earliest issues involved were more delicate emotions, such as a lack of concern and sympathy for comrades, and a lack of consideration for relatives. Later, the patient's emotional response to the things around him becomes dull and his interest in life and study decreases. As the disease progresses, the patient's emotions become increasingly indifferent, and he or she may even be surprisingly indifferent to things that cause him or her great pain. Finally, the patient may lose any emotional connection with the surrounding environment.

When emotions become indifferent, there may be a lack of coordination between emotional reactions and the environment, and between emotional reactions and the content of thinking. The patient may fly into a rage over trivial matters, or narrate his or her unfortunate experiences with a smile; the latter is called affect inversion.

(3) Disorder of volitional activity : The patient's activities decrease, he lacks initiative, and his behavior becomes withdrawn, passive, and withdrawn, that is, his volitional activity decreases. The patient's requirements for life, study and work are reduced, which is manifested by not taking the initiative to interact with others, skipping classes or work without reason, etc. In severe cases, the behavior is extremely passive, and the same applies to basic demands for life. The patient does not pay attention to cleanliness and hygiene, does not take a bath or comb his hair for a long time, lives a lazy life, does nothing all day, sits or lies in bed. Some patients' behavior is completely inconsistent with the environment. They eat things that should not be eaten (such as soap and dirty water), harm their own bodies, etc. This is called intentional perversion. Or be dominated by hallucinations and bizarre thoughts.
