What are the hazards of acid rain to human body

Rain is a natural phenomenon that often occurs in the summer. Normal rain is not only good for all things, but also can purify the air and is good for people. However, acid rain is a kind of rain that is not good for the human body and nature. Generally, acid rain will occur when the air pollution is particularly serious. It is not only not good for people, but also not good for the natural environment. What are the harms of acid rain to the human body? Let’s take a look.

1. The harm of acid rain to human body. First, heavy metals such as mercury and lead enter the human body through the food chain, inducing cancer and Alzheimer's disease; second, acid mist invades the lungs, inducing pulmonary edema or causing death; third, long-term living in an environment containing acid precipitation induces the production of excessive oxidized lipids, leading to an increased probability of diseases such as arteriosclerosis and myocardial infarction.

2. Acid rain harms aquatic systems, causing the loss of fish and other biological communities, changing the cycle of nutrients and toxins, causing toxic metals to dissolve into the water and enter the food chain, resulting in a reduction in species and productivity. It is reported that in Sweden, the "Land of a Thousand Lakes", 18,000 lakes became acidified due to acid rain from the early 1970s to the mid-1980s. Domestic reports indicate that water bodies in places like Nanshan in Chongqing have become acidic, with a pH value of less than 4.7, making it impossible for fish to survive. Farmers have raised fish many times but have not been able to harvest any results.

3. The harm of acid rain to terrestrial ecosystems is mainly manifested in soil and plants. The impacts on the soil include inhibiting the decomposition of organic matter and the fixation of nitrogen, leaching nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium, and making the soil infertile. For plants, acid rain damages new leaf buds, affects their growth and development, and leads to the degradation of forest ecosystems. It is reported that 65 million hectares of forests are damaged in Europe every year, and 9,000 hectares of forests in Italy die due to acid rain. More than half of the 1,800 hectares of pine forest in Nanshan, Chongqing, my country have died due to acid rain.

Through the above introduction, we know the harm of acid rain to the human body. This is also a natural reaction after the environment is destroyed, and it is also the result of environmental pollution. We must pay attention to it in normal times. We must pay attention to the pollution of the environment, especially planting more trees, afforestation, and reducing pollution.
