Can malignant ovarian cancer cause ascites?

Ovarian cancer is a malignant tumor. If not treated in time, it will cause serious complications, one of which is ascites. The so-called ascites generally refers to the accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity. During the onset of the disease, patients will experience symptoms of abdominal distension and pain. In addition, ovarian cancer in the late stage will also cause other complications, such as invasion of surrounding tissues, distant organ metastasis, and tumor rupture.

First, ascites. The chance of ascites in ovarian cancer is relatively high. The main reason for this is that cancer cells metastasize to the abdominal cavity, invade the lymphatic system and block the return of lymphatic tissue. In addition, ovarian cancer is a wasting disease. In the later stages, the protein concentration in the blood will decrease, causing the plasma osmotic pressure to drop, which is also the main cause of ascites. Ascites caused by ovarian cancer is mainly characterized by abdominal pain and bloating. At this time, you can take diuretics to speed up the discharge of water.

Second, it invades surrounding tissues and organs. If the patient is diagnosed with ovarian cancer and does not take the correct approach to treatment, it can affect surrounding organs and cause intestinal obstruction, bladder damage, ureteral stenosis, and other conditions.

Third, distant organ metastasis. Advanced ovarian cancer can cause cancer cells to spread and metastasize, and it is easy to metastasize to distant organs and cause organ failure, such as liver failure, lung failure, and kidney failure.

Fourth, tumor rupture. When the tumor grows to a certain size, it will cause rupture. The cystic fluid after rupture will flow into the abdominal cavity, irritating the peritoneum and causing the patient to experience severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, high fever, and even shock.
