Can lung cancer undergo minimally invasive surgery?

Can lung cancer be treated with minimally invasive surgery?

Normally, lung cancer can be treated with minimally invasive surgery, but minimally invasive treatment of lung cancer has certain indications. For example, for patients with early-stage tumors that are not particularly large, the effect of surgery will be better, and the tumor can basically be completely removed. On the contrary, if the tumor is relatively large and has developed to the middle and late stages, it is not suitable for minimally invasive treatment and traditional open-chest surgery should be considered.

Minimally invasive surgery can certainly be used to treat lung cancer, provided that the requirements for surgery are met. It is recommended that the feasibility of treatment be assessed from the perspectives of tumor size, shape, location, and relationship with other tissues and organs before treatment. If the tumor is small and has not spread to the surrounding area, it can be removed under thoracoscopy.

The treatment principles of minimally invasive surgery and open chest surgery are basically the same, and the damage to nerves and blood vessels is less, and the patient recovers faster after surgery. Especially for early lung cancer, this method may give a good prognosis. Of course, before surgery, the patient's lung function and heart function should be observed to see if there is a history of other diseases, and then it can be decided whether it is suitable for minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgery. If the condition is more serious and no longer meets the requirements for surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted drug therapy, and Chinese medicine adjuvant therapy can be selected.

Minimally invasive surgery is a relatively good treatment for early-stage lung cancer, which can greatly reduce the patient's trauma and promote postoperative recovery. However, patients in the late stage are not suitable for surgical treatment, so this method cannot be used.
