What are the symptoms of nasopharyngeal cancer by stage? Is the survival rate of nasopharyngeal cancer high?

1. There may be bleeding symptoms in the early stage, which is manifested as blood in the sputum after nasal suction, or blood in the mucus when blowing the nose. In the early stage, there is only a small amount of blood in the sputum or mucus, which sometimes appears and sometimes disappears. In the late stage, there is more bleeding.

2. When nasopharyngeal carcinoma occurs in the lateral fossa of the nasopharyngeal wall or the upper lip of the Eustachian tube opening, the tumor compresses the Eustachian tube and may cause unilateral tinnitus or hearing loss. Catarrhal otitis media, unilateral tinnitus or hearing loss, and ear occlusion may also occur.

3. Headache is a common symptom in NPC patients, accounting for 68.6%. It can be the first symptom. The early headache location is not fixed and intermittent, while the late headache is continuous and fixed. The reason is that in early NPC patients, it may be caused by neurovascular reflex or stimulation of the first terminal nerve of the trigeminal nerve. In late patients, it is usually caused by tumor destruction of the skull base or intracranial spread.

4. Due to the invasion of the abducens nerve by the tumor, double vision often occurs. Invasion of the trochlear nerve often causes inward strabismus and diplopia; diplopia accounts for 6.2% to 19% and is often damaged at the same time as the trigeminal nerve.

5. Refers to numbness of the facial skin, and clinical examination shows decreased or absent pain and tactile sensation.

6. After the tumor blocks the nostrils, nasal congestion may occur. When the tumor is small, the nasal congestion is mild. As the tumor grows, the nasal congestion worsens, mostly unilateral; if the tumor blocks both posterior nostrils, bilateral nasal congestion may occur.
