What should you pay attention to in postoperative care for skin cancer

For squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma, the scope of surgery is generally not large and no special care is required. Patients should be exposed to sunlight as little as possible. In terms of observing tumor recurrence, recurrence at the original site is more common than distant metastasis or regional lymph node metastasis. After discovering suspicious recurrence lesions, you should go to the hospital for diagnosis and surgery in time. The effect of reoperation is generally better. If surgery is difficult, radiotherapy can be performed. Skin cancer has a tendency to occur multiple times. During care, the entire skin area should be closely observed frequently, especially paying attention to more hidden areas such as behind the ears.

In terms of diet, skin cancer patients should reduce fat intake and improve nutrition.

Special attention should be paid to the diet from the 2nd to 3rd day after the operation. Liquid diet can be given according to the situation, such as rice soup, soy milk, lotus root powder, fruit juice, etc., and then gradually changed to skim milk with sweet bread, rice porridge, tofu soup, jujube paste rice paste and pasta, etc.

Within one month after surgery, the intake of fatty foods should be reduced, and high-fat and fried foods should be avoided. This mainly means not eating or eating as little fat as possible, animal offal, egg yolks and fried foods, using as little animal oil as possible in cooking, and adding vegetable oil in moderation. Dishes should be mainly steamed, stewed, or served cold. In particular, spicy and irritating foods should be avoided, and alcohol should be stopped, so as to reduce adverse stimulation to the bile duct.

What you need to pay attention to is to gradually strengthen nutrition. One month after the surgical resection, you should not pursue a light diet. You should eat some lean meat, aquatic products, fish, and bean products every day. It is better if you can drink a cup of milk. If you are not used to eating milk or fish, you can eat more soy products and mushrooms to make up for the lack of animal protein. Eating more high-fiber and vitamin-rich foods is also very beneficial to the patient's recovery after surgery. The number of meals should be appropriately increased. Within 3 to 6 months after surgery, 4 meals a day is better. Eating small meals more often can reduce the burden on the digestive system and is conducive to recovery after surgery.
