Can I get liver cancer if my liver is normal due to B-ultrasound? I found liver cancer after three tests

Liver cancer is highly malignant and patients often have a poor prognosis. As a high-risk group, early detection and early treatment are necessary. B-ultrasound examination is only a common examination and does not have a good guiding significance for excluding liver cancer. Alpha-fetoprotein detection, enhanced CT examination and pathological biopsy are the main means of diagnosing liver cancer.

Liver cancer is the third most common malignant tumor in my country. With the increasing pollution of the environment and the change of people's living habits, many young people have also been diagnosed with liver cancer. Early detection and early treatment of liver cancer can effectively improve the five-year survival rate. Some friends go to the hospital for a physical examination and find that the B-ultrasound liver examination is normal. They will ask such a question: Can I get liver cancer if the B-ultrasound liver examination is normal? The following is a detailed answer to this question.

B-ultrasound is the most common type of non-invasive imaging examination method in medicine. This type of examination is very sensitive to space-occupying lesions, effusions, etc. When conducting a health check, doctors often choose liver ultrasound to screen for liver lesions, but this is not the gold standard for diagnosing liver cancer. In other words, a normal B-ultrasound liver examination cannot completely rule out lesions. For example, if the volume of a liver tumor is less than one centimeter or the density of a liver lesion is similar to that of normal liver tissue, false negatives may occur, and patients are advised to choose other examination methods. So what tests can be used to detect liver cancer?

1. Examination of tumor markers. Tumor markers are of great reference value for the diagnosis of malignant tumors. Patients only need to draw venous blood for examination. The tumor marker for liver cancer examination is alpha-fetoprotein, and its positive rate in liver cancer can be as high as more than 80%.

2. Enhanced CT examination. Enhanced CT is one of the important means to diagnose liver cancer. By developing contrast agents in the body, the size of space-occupying lesions and whether there is metastasis can be clearly determined.

3. Pathological biopsy: Liver biopsy is performed by liver puncture to obtain liver biopsy tissue. Finding liver cancer cells under a light microscope can confirm the diagnosis, which is also the gold standard for diagnosing this disease.

Malignant liver tumors have seriously endangered our health. To prevent them from happening, early detection and early treatment are necessary to prolong life to the greatest extent. If the B-ultrasound examination is normal, liver cancer cannot necessarily be ruled out. To confirm this disease, alpha-fetoprotein testing, enhanced CT examination and pathological biopsy are necessary.
