Can I have a child if my colon cancer is not cured?

Colon cancer is a common malignant tumor of the digestive tract that occurs in the colon. Its early symptoms are mainly changes in bowel habits, such as constipation and diarrhea. There is often a small amount of blood and mucus attached to the surface of the stool. As the disease progresses, the amount of blood in the stool gradually increases, and there is a feeling of tenesmus. Symptoms such as weight loss and anemia are progressively aggravated. So can you have children if your colon cancer is not cured? This is the question that patients are most concerned about.

If a colon cancer patient is currently undergoing treatment, it is best not to get pregnant. The medication and chemotherapy during treatment will affect the health of the fetus. Pregnancy can only be considered under the guidance of a doctor if there is no recurrence at least one year after the treatment is stopped.
In general, patients with ulcerative colitis should delay pregnancy until the disease has been effectively controlled for more than 1 year. If the disease is not effectively controlled or is controlled for less than 1 year before pregnancy, the disease may worsen during pregnancy or early after delivery. Data show that about 1/3 of inactive ulcerative colitis and 2/3 of pregnant women with ulcerative colitis will have their disease worsen during pregnancy, and about 10% of pregnant women with the disease may have spontaneous abortion and terminate the pregnancy. Acute ulcerative colitis occurs during pregnancy, usually within the first 3 months of pregnancy; the disease is often moderate or extremely severe during delivery and the postpartum period; the mortality rate is as high as 40% to 80%.
