Diet care for patients with pancreatic cancer

After pancreatic cancer patients undergo various treatments, a reasonable diet plays an extremely important role in the treatment effect and prognosis of the disease, so effective dietary measures should be taken.

After surgery

The choice of diet after surgery can be based on the patient's gastrointestinal function recovery. First, use liquid food, such as milk, juice, sugar water, etc., and gradually transition to semi-liquid food, soft food and normal food. The ratio of various nutrients in the diet also gradually transitions from simple to comprehensive. In addition, patients who undergo total pancreatectomy also have part of the stomach removed, so the amount of food intake after surgery will be reduced, and the patient must have a gradual adaptation process.

After radiotherapy

Radiotherapy has many side effects, such as mucosal damage, bone marrow suppression, leukopenia, etc. Generally, patients should be given liquid or semi-liquid food, and some sweet and cool foods that nourish yin and promote body fluid production should be added to the diet, such as lotus root juice, pear juice, sugar cane juice, water chestnuts, kiwi fruit, etc. For patients in poor physical condition, intravenous high nutrition can be given to supplement the severe consumption of the body.

After chemotherapy

After chemotherapy, due to the toxic side effects of drugs, patients often have a poor appetite. They should be given a light, less greasy, and easily digestible diet. Smoking, drinking, spicy, fried, and other irritating foods, as well as raw, cold, and hard foods are prohibited. Patients are encouraged to drink more water and soup to accelerate the excretion of toxins in the body. In addition, during the interval between chemotherapy, attention should be paid to supplementing high-calorie, high-vitamin, high-protein, and low-fat foods to ensure nutritional needs.
