According to age, the nails of children grow faster than those of teenagers, and the nails of the elderly grow slower than those of teenagers; according to location, fingernails grow faster than toenails; according to season, they grow faster in summer than in winter.

1) Nail root: It is the root of the nail and the source of nail growth, which is extremely weak. It is also the part that promotes nail metabolism.

2) Nail body: Also called the fingernail, it is composed of 3-4 overlapping layers of hard keratin. It is white and translucent, does not contain capillaries and nerves, and is made of hard keratin cells.

3) Nail front edge: It is the part of the nail tip extending from the end of the nail bed and is the dividing line between the nail body and the nail front edge. The front edge of the nail has no support point and is easy to break.

4) Nail bed: It is the skin tissue that supports the nail, is closely connected to the nail, and provides nutrition and moisture to the nail. The nail bed is rich in capillaries, which make the nail appear pink.

5) Methyl: Located at the base of the nail, contains capillaries, lymphatic vessels and nerves. It acts like soil. After absorbing nutrients from the human body, methyl groups produce keratin cells that make up the nails, so methyl groups are called the source of nail growth.

6) Nail arc: It is white and half-moon shaped, located under the nail body, attached to the junction of the nail root and the nail bed. The nail body is firmly connected to the nail root and the nail base through the nail arc.

7) Epidermal cuticle: also known as finger skin. The cuticle can form a protective film on the outer edge of the nail bed to block the invasion of foreign matter and prevent bacterial infection. It has the function of protecting the nail bed and nails.

8) Nail core: It is the thin layer of skin under the front edge of the nail. The nails are very sensitive. When shaping the nails, special care should be taken when operating on customers with exposed fingernails to avoid hurting the customers. When the nail core is damaged, it can cause nail atrophy.

9) Nail groove: Located between the nail wall and the nail bed, it is also the track along which the nails grow. When the nails are not trimmed, paronychia will occur.

10) Nail wall: The skin covering both sides of the nail.

11) Nail smile line: also known as the free edge, it is the dividing edge between the front edge of the nail and the nail surface. The dividing points on both sides are most prone to cracks and breaks.

12) Nail posterior border line: the dividing line between the nail root and the nail body.
