Shaoyang Meridian Headache

Shaoyang Meridian Headache

Anyone who has some knowledge of Chinese medicine knows that the most important way to learn Chinese medicine is to master the large and small meridians and acupoints distributed on the human body. The Shaoyang Meridian is a common meridian in the human body. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is believed that the Shaoyang Meridian is mainly composed of the hands, feet, liver, and yin and yang. However, when some people experience headaches, it is the headaches caused by the Shaoyang Meridian. So how should the headaches caused by the Shaoyang Meridian be solved?

The treatment for Shaoyang headache is to dredge the Shaoyang meridian. Acupoints selected: Fengchi, Shuaigu, Waiguan, Xiaxi, Yanglingquan. The Luegu point is pierced along the skin obliquely toward the base of the ear with an insertion depth of about 1 inch. The Xiaxi point is pierced vertically 0.3 to 0.5 inches, and the Yinlingquan point is pierced vertically 1 to 2 inches. Use the draining method for acupuncture, leave the needle in for about 20 minutes, once a day, 10 times as a course of treatment.

When Shaoyang headache occurs, pain may occur on both sides of the head, including the ears and hairline, or migraine, accompanied by alternating hot and cold, fullness and pain in the chest and flanks, bitter taste in the mouth and dizziness; the pulse is stringy and thin, the tongue is reddish, and the tongue coating is thin yellow. Clinically, the most common symptoms are liver and gallbladder fire-heat or wind-heat syndrome.

Treatment: Reconcile the exterior and interior.

Prescription: Xiao Chaihu Decoction with modifications.

10 grams of Bupleurum, 6 grams of Scutellaria, 10 grams of Codonopsis, 10 grams of Pinellia, 5 grams of Roasted Licorice, 10 grams of Vitex Mandibana, and 10 grams of Ligusticum chuanxiong.

Predisposing factors: bad body posture and living habits, which can cause damage to the trapezius and temporalis muscles (governed by the gallbladder meridian and triple burner meridian). Long-term desk work will always keep the shoulders and back in a tense state. When answering the phone for a long time, the shoulders and neck will be twisted, and some people even clamp the phone on the shoulder for convenience, which will cause cramp-like pain in the shoulders and neck. Some people have bad legs and feel pain on the outside of one leg when walking, which causes the center of the body to shift and the shoulders are always inadvertently in a tense state; the air conditioning in the office or the cold outside can cause harm; some people are used to leaning sideways on the edge of the table, which causes long-term tension in the muscles of one shoulder; these unbalanced tensions will cause imbalance in the strength of the muscles on both sides of the cervical vertebra and spine, affecting the circulation of qi and blood passing through the meridians.

When Shaoyang meridian headache occurs, it is mostly in the temporalis muscle area on both sides and involves the ears. Sometimes it feels like the whole head is hurting, and you can't tell where the problem is. By pressing the scalp, you can find sensitive areas, which are generally in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Sanjiao meridian and the gallbladder meridian. You can feel tenderness, nodules and cord-like tendons, especially the Jianjing point. The Fengchi point is a signal of gallbladder meridian headache. Pain in the Fengchi point indicates invasion of wind and cold. When someone has a severe headache, they may experience toothache when chewing their food hard. Female patients may feel that the bra straps are extremely heavy, like iron wires digging into the flesh, causing discomfort in the shoulders, neck and sides of the head.

Precautions

First of all, we must avoid postures that cause muscle stiffness. Relieving long-term tension in the shoulders and neck is the key. It is recommended to take frequent breaks during work and stretch the shoulders. Often do stretching exercises during breaks, such as shrugs, shoulder circles, raise your hands and legs from the front to the top of your head and stretch them, even if it is imitating various swimming postures or skipping rope. Any exercise that only moves and stretches the shoulders and avoids long-term tense movements will be fine. It is wise to regularly ask a masseur to help massage your shoulders, head, neck and even back.

treat:

1. Local pressure: Use finger pressure, kneading, pinching, scraping and other methods to loosen the painful scalp and muscles, release adhesions and clear blood stasis. For example, if you feel pain in the gallbladder meridian area on the side of your head, you can gently grab the hair in that area with your hand and pull the scalp outwards. You can also directly lift the local scalp, twist and pull it outwards. If there is thickened and edematous scalp in the middle, you can twist it with your fingertips.

Use a scraping board to scrape along the gallbladder meridian and triple burner meridian from the head to the shoulders to dredge the meridians and activate the collaterals. It is not necessary to scrape out sha. If lifting doesn't work, you can also massage and move the most painful areas. It is necessary to coordinate the massage of the meridians of the shoulders and neck and the muscle groups they govern (mainly the occipital muscles and trapezius muscles). During treatment, you can find the hard tendons and joints at the Fengchi, Jianjing and other acupoints, patiently massage these tense muscles, loosen those stiff nodules, and use cupping and scraping to remove the sludge in the meridians, which can significantly relieve headaches.

2. Treatment according to meridians

Choose the Yimen point on the triple burner meridian or the Zuqiaoyin point on the gallbladder meridian, assisted by Yangfu, Xiaxi, Qiuxu, Zulinqi, Yanglingquan and Taichong of the liver meridian, to find sensitive points.

3. Comprehensive treatment

Most Shaoyang meridian headaches are related to blood stasis in the liver, gallbladder and triple burner meridians, which causes the liver and gallbladder qi, which should be discharged through the intestines with farts, to go up because of the blockage of the lower route. You can do more things to soothe the liver and regulate qi, frequently massage the liver and gallbladder meridians on the inside and outside of the legs, and cooperate with the bladder meridian, mainly choosing liver, gallbladder and diaphragm points for treatment, to keep the channels for discharging depressed qi unobstructed.

Women are most likely to get sick before and after menstruation. The attacks before and after menstruation are mostly related to qi and blood deficiency or qi stagnation and blood stasis. In addition to massaging Sanyinjiao and Ci Liao, you should also pay attention to nourishing qi and blood, and benefiting the liver and kidneys. If you feel upset and have chest tightness, you can choose Xiaoyao Pills. If you have dry mouth, you can use Jiawei Xiaoyao Pills. If you feel dizzy, sore eyes, weak waist and knees, you can use Dendrobium Night-light Pills. If you feel dizzy and weak, you can use Bazhen Granules. Drink yam and barley porridge, red dates and brown sugar water often. If you have a headache accompanied by a bitter taste in your mouth, you can try Xiao Chaihu Granules and Zhengtian Pills.
