Can gout patients swim?

Swimming is a good aerobic exercise and regular swimming is very good for our health. In the hot summer, soaking in the water freely is also a kind of enjoyment. However, if you suffer from a disease like gout, there are many things you need to pay attention to in your daily life. Gout cannot be cured at present, and there is a concern that normal exercises like swimming will have a greater impact. So, can people with gout swim? Let’s take a look below.

People with gout can swim, but just be careful not to overwork and keep warm. As for diet, people with gout should try to eat less spicy and irritating foods. Foods should be rich in essential amino acids, such as milk, lean meat, freshwater fish and other high-quality proteins. Drink a glass of milk and eat alkaline foods such as golden alkali before going to bed. Lead a regular life, go to bed on time, get up on time, and eat on time. Combining work and rest can promote the relief of the disease.

Several simple methods to treat gout

1. Move your joints frequently. Move your fingers and toes, knees and elbows more often and do stretching exercises. This will drive away the deposits of uric acid crystals in the joints.

2. For the treatment of gout, you can grind 5 grams of cinnamon into powder and take it with 20 grams of honey. Massage the painful joints, which can usually relieve the pain in 30 minutes.

3. Soak your feet in gout hand and foot bath for at least 30 minutes before going to bed at night. This is not only beneficial for the treatment of gout, but also can relieve pain and dissolve uric acid crystals and excrete them out of the body.

4. Uric acid is easily dissolved in an alkaline environment, so you should eat more alkaline foods such as vegetables, fruits, and nuts. You can adopt a periodic plant-based diet, such as cucumber day, watermelon day, apple day, etc.

Dietary considerations for gout patients

1. Maintain an ideal weight. If you are overweight or obese, you should lose weight. However, weight loss should be gradual, otherwise it may easily lead to ketosis or acute gout attacks.

2. Carbohydrates can promote the excretion of uric acid. Patients can eat rice, steamed buns, pasta, etc. that are rich in carbohydrates.

3. Protein can be consumed in proportion according to body weight. 0.8 to 1 gram of protein should be consumed for 1 kilogram of body weight, and milk and eggs should be the main sources. If it is lean meat, chicken, duck, etc., it should be boiled and then eaten without soup. Avoid eating stewed or braised meat.

4. Eat less fat, because fat can reduce the excretion of uric acid. For patients with gout and hyperlipidemia, fat intake should be controlled within 20% to 25% of total calories.

5. Drink plenty of water. You should drink 2000ml to 3000ml of water every day to promote the excretion of uric acid. Try to drink water evenly, one cup every hour.

6. Eat less salt, which should be limited to 2 to 5 grams per day.

7. No alcohol! Alcohol can easily cause lactic acid accumulation in the body, inhibit the excretion of uric acid, and easily induce gout.

8. Use less strong seasonings or spices. Chili, curry, pepper, Sichuan pepper, mustard, ginger and other spices can excite the autonomic nervous system and induce gout attacks, so they should be eaten as little as possible.

9. Limit purine intake. Purine is a component in the cell nucleus. Any food that contains cells contains purine, and animal foods contain more purine. Patients are forbidden to eat offal, bone marrow, seafood, fermented food, beans, etc.
