How to treat symptoms of phlebitis caused by infusion?

After phlebitis is discovered, the needle should be removed and hot compress should be applied to the inflamed part to improve the symptoms. Generally, there will be significant improvement within three days. If accompanied by pus, the pus should be cleaned and disinfected before hot compress application to avoid infection.

1. If phlebitis occurs, if it is a general indwelling needle, it should be removed, the puncture site should be changed, and the inflamed area can be given hot compresses. The symptoms should improve within 3 days. If there is no sign of improvement, the doctor should be notified to evaluate whether it is a bacterial infection.

2. If phlebitis occurs when a central catheter is inserted into a peripheral vein, warm compresses can be applied first. If it is mechanical or chemical phlebitis, the symptoms should be relieved. If the symptoms persist and there is no sign of improvement, it needs to be removed.

3. If you want to apply hot compress, you can use a hot towel for 20 minutes each time, 4 times a day.

4. If bacterial phlebitis is suspected, the doctor should be notified to perform catheter needle and blood culture. Blood culture should be drawn from other veins and catheters for blood culture as the basis for diagnosis.

5. If there is pus, the purulent fluid should be cultured using a sterile cotton swab; before sampling, avoid disinfecting the skin to avoid affecting the bacterial culture.

6. Raise the affected limb to promote blood circulation and repair.

7. If a chemical reaction is suspected, it must be recorded.

8. Avoid puncturing inflamed blood vessels again. Inflamed blood vessels must be used only after the symptoms are completely healed and the elasticity is restored.
