Will arachnoid cysts disappear? They still need timely treatment

Arachnoid cysts are benign lesions that are very common in children and adolescents. Arachnoid cysts need to be treated promptly and will not disappear on their own. Some patients with particularly obvious symptoms, especially those with epilepsy, require surgical treatment.

1. Will arachnoid cysts disappear?

Arachnoid cysts generally do not disappear on their own, so if you find this condition and it is not serious, you should go to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible. If there is an arachnoid sac but no symptoms occur, there is no need to go to the hospital to treat the disease. However, if accompanied by epilepsy or neurological diseases, the arachnoid sac must be treated surgically.

Second, most scholars believe that surgical treatment is not necessary for patients without clinical symptoms. For those with symptoms, surgical treatment is required to decompress the cyst internally and remove the cyst wall. The treatment methods are as follows:

1. Draining Cysts:

The cystic fluid was drained into the subdural space.

Cyst-peritoneal shunt, which drains cystic fluid into the peritoneal cavity.

2. Cyst wall incision:

Craniotomy to remove the cyst.

Various endoscopic techniques as well as laser-assisted techniques are used to remove the cyst.

3. Drilling or acupuncture to drain the cystic fluid.

4. Drug treatment for epilepsy or pain symptoms.

3. Disease Diagnosis

Conventional CT and MRI examinations can generally confirm the diagnosis. Only in a few cases, cerebrospinal fluid contrast agents or flow measurement are used for midline suprasellar and posterior fossa lesions. The Mini-Mental Exam Scale (MMSE) can also be used to evaluate cognitive function.

Differentiation: epithelioid cysts of the ventricular system and epithelioid cysts of the cerebral hemispheres.
