The main functions of probiotics

Probiotics are a type of fungus, but they are completely different from the bacteria and fungi we usually talk about. Probiotics are mainly active microorganisms in our human intestines, helping us improve the balanced development of intestinal microflora and playing a certain role. Although they are also parasitic in our bodies as a kind of microorganism, they can produce beneficial effects on our bodies and are even taken into the human body as a medicine. So what are the main functions of probiotics?

The role and efficacy of probiotics

1. Improve diarrhea

Poor eating habits can disrupt the balance of intestinal flora and cause diarrhea. Supplementing with probiotics helps balance intestinal flora and restore normal intestinal pH, thereby relieving diarrhea symptoms.

Probiotics have a certain effect on abdominal distension and diarrhea caused by infectious diarrhea, ulcerative colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome in children.

2. Improve constipation

Bifidobacteria break down sugar to produce lactic acid and acetic acid, which makes the intestines acidic, inhibits the reproduction of harmful bacteria in the intestines, promotes intestinal peristalsis, and relieves constipation.

3. Prevent and treat diabetes

After people ingest glucose, it must first enter the intestines and be absorbed by the intestinal epithelial cells before entering the rest of the body. The probiotics in the intestines like to use glucose and swallow it effortlessly. If there are a large number of probiotics in the body and they are actively consuming glucose, the amount of glucose transported into the body will be reduced, and the direct result is that the glucose in the blood will be reduced.

4. Reduce the side effects of antibiotics

While antibiotics kill bacteria, they also kill beneficial bacteria in the body, thereby disrupting the balance of the bacterial flora and even causing antibiotic-associated diarrhea. Supplementing with probiotics can help restore the balance of the body's flora and thus reduce side effects. After taking antibiotics, it is best to take probiotics at least 2 hours later.

5. Treatment of mild hepatic encephalopathy

Recent studies have shown that intestinal flora imbalance is involved in the occurrence of cirrhosis. The 2013 "Chinese Consensus on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Hepatic Encephalopathy" clearly affirmed the effectiveness of probiotics in treating mild hepatic encephalopathy. Domestic studies have reported that the Bifidobacterium quadruple biopsy tablet can be used to treat mild hepatic encephalopathy.

6. Treatment of alcoholic and non-alcoholic liver disease

The probiotics recommended by the "Chinese Consensus on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Hepatic Encephalopathy" include probiotic mixtures, Lactobacillus GG strain, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium longum and oligosaccharides.

7. Improve indigestion

Probiotics can promote the secretion of intestinal digestive enzymes and help the human body digest and absorb. 7. Relieve lactose intolerance symptoms

Lactobacillus can help the body break down lactose, relieve diarrhea, bloating and other uncomfortable symptoms, and can be consumed with milk.

8. Enhance human immunity

There is a very developed immune system in the human intestine. Probiotics can stimulate the immune function in the intestines and regulate low or high immune activity to normal levels. This immunomodulatory effect of probiotics can also help relieve allergic reactions.
