Eyes are extremely important to us. It is said that eyes are the windows to the soul, which can help us discover life better. At the same time, eyes are relatively fragile organs and can be damaged if we don't pay attention. We must pay more attention to them in our daily lives. Just like many diseases will be reflected in the eyes, anemia will generally make the eyes dull and turbid, and lifeless. Therefore, we must protect our eyes to ensure the health of our body. (1) Observe the eyes: If the patient can see things clearly and the black and white of the eyeballs are distinct, the disease is easy to cure. If the white of the eye is turbid, the black of the eye is dull, and the eyes are dull, the disease is difficult to cure. (2) Look at the eye color: People with red eyes often suffer from a fever. Red sclera indicates excessive lung fire, which is common in patients with conjunctivitis; if the entire eyeball is red, swollen and painful, it is mostly a syndrome of wind-heat in the liver meridian. Yellow eyes indicate jaundice. Blue or purple-brown spots of varying sizes in the white of the eye are caused by ascariasis. Eye bags that are dark, dull and lifeless are a sign of kidney deficiency. (3) Observe the shape of the eyes: If the lower eyelid bags are swollen and dark in color, it is a symptom of kidney deficiency and water retention. Red and swollen upper and lower eye bags indicate spleen heat. Sunken eye sockets are mostly caused by a deficiency of body fluid or severe damage to Qi and blood. If you see a person who has been ill for a long time with sunken eyes, it means that the vital energy of his internal organs is depleted, the disease is difficult to cure or the prognosis is poor; if the vision is blurred or he cannot see things, it means that his vital energy has been lost, and it is a dangerous sign of separation of yin and yang. Bulging eyes, accompanied by swollen neck, increased appetite, weight loss, and irritability are symptoms of hyperthyroidism. If the eyes are bulging and accompanied by difficulty breathing, wheezing and inability to lie down, it is usually a symptom of emphysema. People with a bulging eye often have a tumor in the brain. (4) Looking up: The eyes look upward and cannot move. This is often a sign of convulsion or mental exhaustion. If the eyes are squinting or looking upward, it is a precursor to convulsions or spasms. Sleeping with eyes open usually indicates weak spleen and stomach, or chronic convulsions in children. Dilated pupils are usually a symptom of kidney-essence depletion, a sign of critical illness, but they can also be seen in liver and gallbladder wind-fire disturbances, drug poisoning, trauma, etc. Pupil constriction is mostly due to liver and kidney strain, internal heat, or excessive liver and gallbladder fire. It can also be seen in drug poisoning. (5) The white of the eye turns yellow: The white of the eye is actually divided into two layers, the inner layer is called the sclera. If the liver suffers from diseases such as hepatitis and cirrhosis, the sclera will turn yellow, which is called "jaundice". Huang Zhongwei explained that the yellow color is caused by bilirubin produced by the decomposition of hemoglobin. The outer layer is called the conjunctiva. After being exposed to ultraviolet rays, dust and other pollution for a long time, it will produce adverse reactions such as pigmentation. The white of the eye will turn dark yellow and the black of the eye will become turbid. Therefore, it is more common in the elderly. (6) White of eye bleeding: When you see a bright red patch on the white of your eye, it is actually caused by ruptured blood vessels in the conjunctiva. However, some people mistakenly believe that it is "fundus" bleeding, which is wrong. In fact, it is "ocular surface" bleeding, which is generally caused by eye injury or abrasion. What needs to be vigilant is that if bleeding in the whites of the eyes occurs frequently without external causes, it may be a manifestation of vascular sclerosis, hypertension, diabetes, or blood diseases such as thrombocytopenia in the eyes. However, it can also occur due to forceful coughing, habitual constipation, or during menstruation in a few women. (7) Eyelid "xanthoma": If yellowish patches of varying sizes grow on the eyelids and slightly protrude from the eyelids, and appear symmetrically on both eyelids, it is called pseudoxanthoma and is more common in middle-aged and older people. Huang Zhongwei said that this is not a real tumor, but the possibility of vascular sclerosis and hyperlipidemia must be ruled out first. (8) Drooping eyelids: Drooping eyelids refer to the drooping of the eyelids. In general, people believe that the loose eyelid skin of the elderly will naturally droop, which is a sign of aging and a natural phenomenon. However, ptosis can also occur in the eyes of patients with myasthenia gravis, brain tumors, cerebral stroke, hypertension, diabetes, etc., but the manifestations are different. For example, myasthenia gravis has a slower onset, with milder symptoms in the morning and heavier symptoms in the evening, with obvious fluctuations within a day; if it is caused by diabetes, brain tumors, or cerebral stroke, the onset will be acute, and there will also be other symptoms such as inflexible eye movement and double vision. (9) Swollen eyelids: Swollen eyelids are usually caused by reduced internal organ function, which leads to water accumulation in the body. Most of them are caused by decreased kidney or gastrointestinal function, or heart disease. The specific situation requires comprehensive systemic symptoms and laboratory tests to determine. But generally speaking, most symptoms caused by acute nephritis are obvious in the morning. For people with poor heart function, edema will first appear in the legs and then gradually move upwards to the face, eyelids and other parts of the body. (10) Eyelid twitching: Eyelid twitching is caused by spasm of the orbicularis oculi muscle, which everyone may have experienced in life. Most of the causes are due to eye muscle fatigue, lack of rest and sleep, or anemia, excessive smoking and drinking. By relaxing mental stress, getting adequate rest and applying local hot compresses, most people can recover from the symptoms in a short period of time. Refractive errors may also cause eyelid twitching, which can be cured by vision correction. It should be noted that if the number of eyelid twitching gradually increases, the range of twitching expands, and there is a linear pulling sensation from the area around the eyes to the corners of the mouth, it may be a problem with the facial nerve or trigeminal nerve. The main cause is within the brain, and you should go to the neurology department for diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible. |
