What is gonorrhea and what types are there

Gonorrhea is a disease, and many people do not understand its nature. Gonorrhea is caused by bacterial infection in the urinary system, so it often leads to lesions in our reproductive system and is also transmitted through sexual intercourse. Gonorrhea can harm the patient's body and cause harm to the fetus, and there are many types, so everyone needs to pay attention.

Gonorrhea is a purulent infection of the urogenital system caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae (gonococci for short). It can also invade the eyes, pharynx, rectum, and pelvis, spreading the infection through the blood. It is one of the common sexually transmitted diseases. Gonorrhea is transmitted through sexual intercourse, and in rare cases it can also be transmitted through the patient's pus contaminants. The patient can transmit the disease to the baby through the birth canal.

Within 3 to 5 days after infection with acute gonorrhea, men will experience burning pain in the urethra, especially when urinating, and will discharge thin mucus, which then turns into thick yellow pus. The urethral opening will become red and swollen, and urination will be difficult and very painful. If not treated promptly, after about 3 weeks, the pus will become thinner and most of the symptoms will disappear, and it will actually turn into chronic gonorrhea.

Chronic gonorrhea often causes stinging and pus discharge from the urethra, and gonorrhea can invade other tissues near the urethra or vagina, causing prostatitis in men, salpingitis and pelvic inflammatory disease in women, as well as gonococcal arthritis and endocarditis. The symptoms of gonorrhea are milder in women than in men, and may occur in the urethra, paraurethral glands, prostate, vaginal mucosa, uterus, etc., and may also develop into chronic gonorrhea.

Gonorrhea in children is mainly transmitted to girls through contaminants, and symptoms include redness and swelling of the vulva, pus discharge, abnormal pain, and fever all over the body. It can also cause gonococcal conjunctivitis, redness and swelling of the eyes with pus, and in severe cases, blindness. The main treatments include penicillin, spectinomycin (Linbizhi), ceftriaxone, etc. Sulfathiazole is also effective. Chronic gonorrhea should be treated with comprehensive treatment.

There are four main types of gonorrhea:

1. Gonococcal pelvic inflammatory disease

Refers to a group of diseases, including acute salpingitis, endometritis, tubo-ovarian abscess, pelvic abscess and peritonitis. Most patients with acute salpingitis may be asymptomatic, except for prolonged menstrual cycles, increased blood volume during menstruation, high fever, chills, headache, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite after menstruation; other symptoms include: pain in both lower abdomen with obvious tenderness, which is heavier on one side.

2. Gonococcal urethritis and paraurethral gland inflammation

Generally, symptoms such as urinary pain, urgency, and burning sensation will appear 2 to 5 days after sexual intercourse. The urethral opening will become red, swollen, and congested, and the paraurethral glands will be squeezed, with purulent secretions overflowing.

3. Gonococcal endocervicitis

The endocervical canal lining is the most likely place for gonococci to hide. Patients experience cervical congestion, edema, and tenderness, and often have increased purulent leucorrhea.

4. Gonococcal vestibulitis

The vestibular glands have obvious acute inflammatory reactions such as redness, swelling, heat, and pain. In severe cases, vestibular gland abscesses may form.
