How long does it take for rectal medication to be absorbed

Rectal administration is a common method of drug administration, and it is still relatively common today. The rectal administration method can actually help patients absorb the drug faster. Rectal administration can usually be absorbed within two hours, which is relatively fast.

Rectal administration is a relatively common method of medication. The drug is absorbed into the blood through the rectal mucosa to play a therapeutic role, which can avoid adverse reactions such as gastrointestinal irritation. Generally, rectal administration can be absorbed two hours after administration.

Rectal administration refers to a method of delivering drugs into the intestine through the anus, where they are rapidly absorbed by the rectal mucosa into the general circulation to exert their efficacy in treating systemic or local diseases. There are three main methods of rectal administration: retention enema, rectal drip, and suppository insertion.

Rectal drug administration procedures

Step 1: Rectal preparation

Equipment preparation: syringe, rectal tube, glycerin (or paraffin oil), iodine (alcohol, saline), cotton swab, medicine (there is a special rectal tube for rectal administration)

Patient preparation: defecation, psychological relaxation

Drugs: Preheat the intended drugs with warm water at 38-40℃.

Environment: screen-shaded, suitable room temperature, sufficient light or lighting. Pay attention to protecting patient privacy.

Step 2: Rectal administration

1. Choose the position: Have the child lie prone or in left lateral position (lying on the parent's legs)

2. Draw the medicine: draw the medicine into the syringe, continue to inhale a small amount of air, and point the needle downward to allow the air to enter the tail end of the lumen.

3. Connect the rectal tube and apply lubricant to the rectal tube.

4. Insert the rectal tube: slowly and gently, inserting 5 to 10 cm.

5. Inject the drug: Push it in slowly

6. Removal of rectal tube

Step 3: Post-drug treatment

1. The child should remain in a supine position for 6 to 15 minutes.

2. Pay attention to whether there is any spillage of liquid medicine and deal with it in time.

3. Observe the reaction after administration, whether there is bowel movement, discomfort, etc.
