Is dishwashing liquid acidic or alkaline

Dishwashing liquid is something we often use when washing dishes. Dishwashing liquid can effectively remove grease and various stains. Especially after frying meat or oily food, a thick layer of oil will stick to the pan. It is impossible to clean it without using detergent. This not only easily damages the furniture, but is also unhygienic. So, is dishwashing liquid acidic or alkaline?

1

Detergent is alkaline

Experiments have shown that the acidity and alkalinity of dishwashing liquid is between 8 and 9. We know that an acidity and alkalinity greater than 7 is alkaline, so dishwashing liquid is truly alkaline.

2

Why is dishwashing liquid alkaline?

We know that dishwashing liquid, as a kitchen product, is the nemesis of oil stains. It is mainly used to remove animal and plant oil stains. The main component of animal and plant oil stains is fatty acid, which is acidic. The chemical components of dishwashing liquid, sodium alkyl sulfonate and sodium fatty alcohol ether sulfate, are both alkaline and are anionic surfactants. They can decompose fatty acids in oils to achieve the purpose of removing oil stains.

Ingredients of dishwashing liquid

The ingredients of dishwashing liquid from different brands may be different, but the main ingredients are basically the same. The main ingredients of dishwashing liquid are sodium alkyl sulfonate, sodium fatty alcohol ether sulfate, foaming agent, solubilizer, flavor, water, pigment and preservatives, all of which are chemical ingredients. In order to differentiate themselves from other brands, some businesses add ingredients such as ginger or lemon extract to their dishwashing liquid.

Uses of dishwashing liquid

As a daily cleaning product, dishwashing liquid is an environmentally friendly and safe product. It is clean and gentle, with soft foam. It can quickly break down grease, quickly remove dirt and sterilize, so as to achieve the purpose of thorough cleaning without residue. Some dishwashing liquids will emit a light fruity scent during washing, keeping tableware white and bright as new. Regular use can ensure home hygiene and prevent germ infection.

The detergent is alkaline but cost-effective

Washing powder is an alkaline synthetic detergent with strong detergency, good solubility, and is easy to use. It is superior in terms of resistance to hard water and rich foam. At the same time, the price is relatively cheap, and it is a laundry detergent with a high cost performance. Using laundry detergent for a long time will make clothes turn gray and yellow, especially white clothes.

Zhang Huatao, deputy secretary-general of the China Detergent Association, introduced that laundry detergent is more suitable for washing cotton, linen, chemical fiber and blended fabrics, but not suitable for washing wool, silk and other clothes. Because wool, silk and other clothes contain protein, and laundry detergent is alkaline, it will damage the clothes. Detergent has a better washing effect in warm water than in cold water. It dissolves evenly in warm water, and surfactants can exert greater effectiveness. The water temperature should be between 30 and 60℃.

There are more and more types of laundry detergents, and their performance varies. Currently, there is an enzyme laundry detergent that has an alkaline protease biocatalyst added to it, which can "digest" stubborn protein stains such as blood stains, milk stains, grass stains, etc., and can also remove odors. Enzyme is a heat-sensitive substance, and temperature is an important factor affecting enzyme activity. Therefore, the water temperature for washing with enzyme-added laundry detergent should be controlled at around 40°C. Do not use water above 60°C to soak the detergent, so as to avoid the enzyme losing its activity and affecting the cleaning effect. Enzyme laundry detergent cannot be used to wash wool, silk and other fabrics containing protein fibers, because enzymes can destroy the structure of protein fibers.
