Is runny nose caused by wind-cold or wind-heat?

The symptoms of clear runny nose usually appear in colds, mainly because of insufficient body resistance. However, daily care requires observation of the patient's cough, sputum and runny nose, and timely addition of clothes and quilts. For symptoms of coldness and shivering, it is necessary to promptly increase the body temperature through quilts or clothes, and eat more foods that can promote sweating.

Clear runny nose is generally a symptom of a cold, which is the result of the body being infected with pathogens. Common pathogens include bacteria, viruses, mycoplasma, etc. Reasonable treatment should be carried out under the guidance of a doctor to avoid the inconvenience caused by self-medication.

① General care:

(1) Keep the air fresh, open windows regularly for ventilation, avoid convection, and disinfect the air. Respiratory isolation is required for epidemic colds.

(2) Observe changes in the patient’s body temperature and measure it 2 to 4 times a day. Observe the degree and changes of chills and fever.

(3) Observe the characteristics of cough, sputum and mucus to make differentiation of syndromes.

(4) Observe the pulse to identify the syndrome and judge the course of the disease and whether there are any signs of change.

②The room temperature should be slightly warmer and it is advisable to add more clothes and quilts. People with chills and body aches should rest more.

③ Wind-cold evil can be eliminated by sweating, so when taking diaphoretic drugs, they should be taken while hot, with a little more clothing and quilt to induce slight sweating. But don't sweat too much and damage your yin and yang.

④ After sweating, wipe dry with a warm towel in time to avoid being exposed to the wind and catching a cold.

⑤ People with high fever and no sweating should not apply cold compresses or alcohol baths to prevent the pores from being blocked and the evil from being unable to escape.

⑥ Acupuncture can be used in conjunction with the purgation method to reduce fever, using acupoints such as Dazhui, Quchi, Fengchi, and Hegu. For nasal congestion, add Yingxiang point; for headache, add Baihui, Taiyang and other points.

⑦ For mild cases, you can take a decoction of ginger, scallion and coriander to induce sweating and dispel cold.

⑧The diet should be light and semi-liquid. Spicy condiments such as pepper, minced ginger and onion can be used to dispel the cold. Avoid raw, cold and greasy foods.
